UTSA head coach Frank Wilson announced Saturday that he has hired defensive line coach David Turner, who has spent the past 17 seasons in the SEC, most recently at Texas AM.
"I am elated to be able to nab one of the SEC's best coaches over the last 17 years in David Turner," Wilson said in a statement. "He is well-connected, well-respected and regarded as one of the top defensive line coaches in the nation. His attention to detail and teaching ability will allow our players to maximize their potential."
Turner coached the defensive tackles and was the defensive run-game coordinator the past two seasons with the Aggies.
He spent six seasons in two stints at Mississippi State -- 2007 to 2009 and 2013 to 2015. In between, he spent three seasons at Kentucky.
Turner coached the defensive ends at Alabama in 2006. Prior to that, he was the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Vanderbilt from 2002-05.
He also was the defensive ends coach at Kentucky in 1993 and 1994 in a career that spans more than three decades.
Wilson is 12-12 in two seasons at UTSA.
